Since 2006, Walt has worked as a consultant and researcher in the chemical and energy industries, focusing on olefins and petrochemical feedstocks. He currently is Vice President, Global Olefins Lead at S&P Global Commodity Insights. Prior to leading Olefins, Walt was Global Business Lead/Chief Strategist for natural gas liquids (NGLs). Before specializing in market analytics, Walt worked 14 years at The Dow Chemical Company/Union Carbide and 2 years at Owens Corning Fiberglas. Key experience includes ethylene feedstock optimization, process engineering, technical sales, R&D, finance and strategic planning. By winning a DuPont Teaching Fellowship, he was able to teach materials engineering while at WVU.

Walt spent his early childhood in Mercer County and later attended Catholic schools in Charleston. He holds a BS, chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, where he became a letterman as the ice hockey team manager. He earned an MBS from the University of Charleston and a PhD, chemical engineering from WVU. Walt is a registered professional engineer in West Virginia. He is also a member of the AIChE, having served as Chair of the Charleston Section. Walt was elected to the Industry Council of the World LPG Association and was proud to be an Ambassador for their Women in LPG organization.

Walt and his wife Tina live on a small farm in Brenham, Texas. Their daughter Mary Katherine is a special education teacher near Austin, and their son Sean is a market analyst in Houston
