Shalin Shah was raised in Parkersburg, WV and graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1995. Upon graduation from WVU, Shalin joined OSI Specialties, outside of Sistersville, WV, where he was a process engineer. In 2000, Shalin graduated from Vanderbilt University with an MBA.

While at Vanderbilt, Shalin became fascinated with the ever changing energy industry. After graduation, Shalin returned to West Virginia to lead business development for a coal industry technology company. Shalin moved to Houston in 2001 to further his energy career. Shalin spent the next 13 years in the deregulated energy industry. Shalin gained valuable experience in sales, operations, regulatory affairs, risk management and finance working for Reliant Energy, a division of NRG Energy, and Direct Energy, a division of Centrica PLC. As Shalin’s corporate career progressed, he most enjoyed leadership roles that had direct bottom-line impact.

In 2014, Shalin co-founded Flat Rock Development, a natural gas exploration and production company in the Utica Shale. Shalin is the company’s Chief Financial Officer.

Shalin also serves on the Board of Directors for Southwest Schools, a charter school in southwest Houston that serves an economically disadvantaged K-12 student population.

Shalin and his wife, Nicole, have two children. They reside in Houston, TX.
