Pfizer, Inc. (retired) — Lewisburg

Richard N. Smith was born in Fairmont, and spent most of his pre-college years in Preston County, where he graduated from Kingwood High School. After graduating from WVU in 1959, he was employed by Goodrich-Gulf Chemicals, Thiokol and Celanese.

Finally, for nearly 31 years, Smith was employed with Pfizer, Inc. in several locations with assignments in North Carolina (twice), Connecticut (twice) and to Ringaskiddy, Ireland, for a major plant start-up. Titles related to these various moves encompassed production supervision, department management, operations management, team management, and plant management, while producing a large variety of pharmaceuticals, food chemicals and industrial products. During his time in Connecticut, he was elected to the Ledyard Board of Tax Review and to the Town Council. He was appointed to Ledyard Economic Development Commission, serving as its chairman for three years.

Since retirement from Pfizer in 1996, Smith returned to his native West Virginia and has resided in Lewisburg. Time is now filled with many retirement activities that have included golfing, gardening, travel and volunteer work with several area organization such as Red Cross, YMCA, Lions Club, Greenbrier Historical Society, Greenbrier Youth Camp and church. Smith and his wife, Nada, are now spending more time with their two children (and their spouses), Bryan (Marian) and Melina (Stephen) and with their five grandchildren – Ashley, Autumn, Kalli, Chankaya and Nikolai.
