Merlan Lambert received a BS in chemistry from West Virginia Wesleyan in 1943, and BSChE, MSChE and a PhDChE from West Virginia University in 1948, 1950 and 1955, respectively. Lambert’s professional experiences include instructor, engineering mechanics at WVU for seven years; operations support, chemicals processes, Esso Standard Oil chemicals plant, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for two years; process development, chemicals and polymer processes, Esso Research Laboratories, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for eight years; process licensing, chemicals processes, Esso Research and Engineering Company, Elizabeth, New Jersey, and New York City for five years; process licensing, petroleum processes, Exxon Research and Engineering Company, Houston, Texas, regional office for 16 years.

Lambert has been a registered Professional Engineer in West Virginia since 1953. He has nine U.S. patents, five of which are for three major Exxon processes. He played a key role in developing/improving a number of major Exxon processes and in developing Exxon’s licensing program and business. He is responsible for licensing of seven chemical projects and 31 petroleum projects, 11 of which were pioneer projects, or first licensee use of the particular technology. Lambert is also joint author of a number of papers.

Lambert is a member of the American Petroleum Institute, the National Petroleum Refiners Association, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and is a Mason and a Baptist. His scholastic honors include Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Gamma Epsilon and Phi Lambda Upsilon.
