Julian Nash was born July 24, 1914, near St. Marys. Following graduation from Washington Irving High School in 1931, he enrolled in chemical engineering at West Virginia University.

After receiving a bachelor of science degree, he began his career in 1935 in operations at the Belle plant of DuPont.

In 1940 he became associated with the Northern Regional Research Laboratory in Peoria, Illinois (U.S. Dept. of Agriculture). Having a first lieutenant's commission in the Chemical Warfare Service Reserve, he was called to active duty in 1942. Several months later he received a medical discharge but saw no action.

In 1943 he joined the staff of Battelle Memorial Institute where he remained for 16 years rising to assistant chief of the chemical engineering department. Two years was spent abroad setting up the Industry Institute of Lebanon for Battelle.

In 1959 he accepted a position as associate director of raw materials research for National Steel Corporation in Weirton. While there he became involved in the new technology of pelletizing of iron ore concentrates a process which increased production significantly at lower cost. Later he became an independent consultant in this field and this led to the formation of the firm of Nash & Stetler International, Inc., a corporation which operated globally.

After retiring from his corporation he completed 44 years in the profession with Kaiser Engineers in Oakland, California.

Nash has three children, Lem W., Steven A. and Megan Carol Conklin.
