John H. (Jack) Bees, a native of Huntington, received his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering from WVU in 1950 and 1951, respectively. Following graduation, he was employed by the International Nickel Company in Research and Development. In 1952 he joined Union Carbide in chemicals manufacturing. Subsequent assignments included purchasing, operations management, marketing and general management. From 1973 to 1979, he was vice president/general manager of several business groups, and in 1979 was made president of the Ethylene Oxide Glycol Division, which eventually became the Industrial Chemicals Division. In 1986 Bees was appointed group vice president of the Chemicals and Plastics Business Group. He remained in this position until his retirement in 1989.

Bees is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Society of the Chemical Industry, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, Phi Lambda Upsilon and Sigma Gamma Epsilon.
