James C. Malone graduated from WVU with a BSChE degree in 1941. While at WVU he was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Phi Lambda Upsilon and Sigma Gamma Epsilon.

He was hired by the Union Carbide Corporation and began his working career in its development department. Transferring to the production department in 1943, a number of positions were held at the South Charleston and Institute plants, including assistant plant manager at Institute from 1956-60. In 1960 Malone was moved to UCC's headquarters in New York as assistant to the general manager of the silicones division and was named general manager of that division in 1961. In 1963 he was promoted to president of the olefins division and in 1966 was elected as a vice president of Union Carbide. From 1966-75 Malone had the responsibility for UCC's interests in Europe; additional responsibilities held during that period included UCC's interests in Canada, the nuclear division and the corporation's new business development department. In 1975, Malone was given the responsibility for the corporate functions of purchasing, distribution, general services and the energy and hydrocarbon feedstocks program. He retired in 1981 after 40 years of service.

Malone served as a director of Union Carbide Canada, Ltd., The Ronson Co. and several international business trade associations. From 1974-76 he served as president of the American Swiss Association. In 1970 he was awarded the decoration, "Order of the Crown," by King Baudouin of Belgium.

An avid golfer, Malone is a member of the Pine Valley Golf Club in Pine Valley, New Jersey, The Little Club in Gulf Stream, Florida, and the Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, Florida, where he and his wife, Dorothy, reside.
