Alfred F. Galli was born November 24, 1920 at Millville, and is a graduate of Harpers Ferry High School. He earned his bachelor's and master's degree in chemical engineering from West Virginia University in 1944 and 1947, respectively.

He was employed by Ashland Oil & Refining Company in September 1943 as a process engineer in their Cattletsburg, Kentucky, refinery. He was appointed instructor in chemical engineering in September 1946 and retired in May 1986 as professor of chemical engineering with 40 years of service in the Department at WVU. During his 40 years of service he taught more than two thirds of the chemical engineers who graduated from the Department.

His services include board of directors for the Society for Glass Sciences & Practices for 12 years, a member of the editorial board of Chemical Abstracts Services of the American Chemical Society for 21 years, member of the Council of Engineering Examiners Committee for the preparation of the professional engineers examination for chemical engineers for 11 years and consulting engineer for various federal government energy agencies for 31 years.

Galli is a member of AIChE, the Society for Glass Sciences & Practices, the Society of Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, Omega Chi Epsilon, Phi Lambda Upsilon and Sigma Gamma Epsilon.

He is married to the former Beatrice Canacari, and resides in Morgantown.
