William Boyle is vice president, Oak Ridge Associated Universities, and director, energy/environment systems division, Oak Ridge Institute for Science & Education. Oak Ridge Associated Universities is a nonprofit corporation with three major activities. One is the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, a Department of Energy facility that operates under a management and operating contract. The second is a more than 65-member university consortium, the vehicle for activities with and for members. The third area is corporate activity that strengthens ORAU as an organization and that delivers other services to members.

Before joining ORAU/ORISE, Boyle held several positions in research and engineering management at West Virginia University. He served as director of the nuclear engineering program at the College of Engineering; acting chairperson of chemical engineering, professor of chemical engineering; and assistant director of the University's Engineering Experiment Station.

Boyle has a BS in chemical engineering from Newark College of Engineering and an MS in nuclear engineering from WVU. Boyle is a registered Professional Engineer and a member of several professional organizations, including the National Society of Professional Engineers, Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Engineering Education, American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Nuclear Society. He is past president of the West Virginia Society of Professional Engineers and served several years on the board of directors and chaired several committees of the National Society of Professional Engineers. He also chaired the education committee of the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers and is a former commissioner with the Engineering Manpower Commission.

Boyle is a native of Patterson, New Jersey. He and his wife, Joanne, reside in Oak Ridge. They have three children.
