W. Eugene Wimer was born in Morgantown, on November 16, 1935. He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from West Virginia University in 1958.

Following graduation, he was employed by PPG Industries at New Martinsville, in the Research and Development Department for six months prior to serving a three-year tour as a lieutenant in the Air Force. In 1962 he returned to PPG's Chemicals Group and has since been manager of licensing, technical manager at the Corpus Christi and Barberton Technical Centers, director of Earnings Improvement Programs and associate director of R&D.

Wimer is a former member of the board of directors and technical advisory committee of Particulate Solids Research, Inc., and a former board member of PPG Industries (France) S.A. He is also a former member of the visiting committee of WVU's chemical engineering department.

Wimer and his wife, Val Del, are retired and live in Greenwood, Indiana. They have three children and five grandchildren.
