H. Leo Mehl, vice president of IMS and executive director of the IRL.

Leo Mehl is the vice president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the executive director of the Indy Racing League. He is the chief administrator of the league and oversees all day-to-day operations.

Mehl comes to the IRL from Goodyear, where he served as the general manager of worldwide racing until his retirement in 1996. At Goodyear, Mehl guided all aspects of the racing tire program including sales, marketing, public relations, advertising, race tire development and production.

As a chemical engineer with Goodyear, Mehl helped develop tires that put A.J. Foyt, Jr. and Goodyear back in the Indianapolis 500 winner’s circle in1967. During the 25 years that Mehl was with Goodyear, the tire company won more than 83 percent of all events in 23 North America and one international racing series in competition with 14 tire companies.

Mehl and his wife, Marjorie, reside in Hudson, Ohio. They have a son, Mike, and daughter, Jennifer.
