Larry Jarrett was born and raised in St. Albans, the son of Lawrence and Virginia Jarrett. He graduated from St. Albans High School in 1959 and entered WVU on a General Motors Merit Scholarship. He was senior engineer for the graduating ChE class and a member of Tau Beta Pi and Omega Chi Epsilon.

In 1966, Jarrett married Linda Sue Lowe, a ChE classmate at WVU and OSU. He received a PhD in 1968 from Ohio State University.

Jarrett worked each summer at Union Carbide in South Charleston and joined Carbide permanently in 1968. Over the years, he has developed low pressure oxo, high pressure polyethylene, fluid bed UNIPOL polyolefins and urethane chemicals processes and products. In 1989, he became worldwide director of R&D for the OrganoSilicones business, which now operates as privately held OSi Specialties.

Jarrett and his family live in Connecticut.
